HOW DO I BECOME A COACH?

New Prague Youth Hockey is always looking for good candidates to help shape the lives of our young athletes and improve their hockey skills.  If you are interested in volunteering your time to dedicate to the development of our youth players, please complete the coaching application/registration below.

ALL Coaches- (new and returning) must complete a registration/application.
 

For a list of the training/certification requirements for coaches, see below. Please note, if you are assigned to coach a team, but do not complete the necessary training requirements in time to be added to the official team roster by the final rostering deadline, you will be required to complete 22 DIBS hours or pay the $550 DIBS buyout rate. 

2023-24 NPHA Coaching Application

Please click this link to be directed to the NPHA Coaching Application. The coaching application will close on Dec 9th at 11:45pm and we will no longer accept applications at that time for the current season.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS

1.  Register with USA Hockey.  Fees for this registrations are reimbursable by the association. You will be asked to enter a new USA Hockey membership number on the coaching application each season. https://membership.usahockey.com/

2.  Background Screening -- The cost is $30, but these are now good for 2 years.  This must be fully processed and cleared before participating in team activities. https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen

3.  USA Safe Sport Training --  This must be completed every year and is a requirement before participating in team activities on the ice. The first year you complete this training, you will take the full core course. Each subsequent year, you will complete a shorter refresher course. Please note that as of 2023, you will not be able to access the next refresher course training until 30 days prior to the expiration of your previous training course. You will receive an email from USA Hockey Safe Sport alerting you when your training is available to take.    http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining.   

4. Coaching Education Program (CEP) Certification Clinics: Every coach must begin with the Level 1 CEP certification for their first season of coaching at any level of play. If you are only coaching Mites/8U team(s), you can remain at a Level 1 and do not need to advance to the next level in subsequent seasons. However, once you begin coaching SQ/10U and older, you will then need to start advancing through the CEP levels each subsequent season until you reach a CEP Level 4. Please do not hesitate to register for an available course as they tend to fill up quickly each year. CEP Levels need to be updated before the end of December. 5. Online Age-Specific Training Modules: Coaches need to have completed the appropriate age-specific training module for the level at which they plan to coach. This must be done before participation in any on-ice activity with the team. To complete this training, please use this link: https://www.usahockey.com/agespecificmodules

6.  HEADS UP Concussion Training -- This training is good for 2 years and must be completed before participating in team activities on the ice.  https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/youthsports/training/index.html  Send certificate of completion to Miranda Vertnik at secretaryregistrar.npha@gmail.com. 

**ALL coaches must be on an approved roster in order to be on the ice or on the bench**

Please submit all reimbursement requests to the NPHA Treasurer at nphatreasurer@gmail.com before the March 31st deadline of the current season to receive reimbursement for your USA Hockey Membership, Background Screening, and Coaching Clinic fees. No reimbursement requests will be considered after the deadline.
